EXCEPTIONAL DIVING
We are fortunate to have a choice of diverse dive sites that are right in front of the resort.
Further afield, heart-pounding adventure diving on undersea mountains is
available under the guidance of our experienced dive guides. The excitement is guaranteed.
Masses of large pelagic fish congregate on the seamounts and divers have even experienced close encounters with large Marlin, Sailfish and even Blue Whales. Our PADI dive center is fully equipped and our instructors are ready to offer easy introductory dives and full dive certification courses.
The visibility can be affected by large surf that generally occurs on the full and new moons, therefore the best dive conditions are usually the periods before or after the full and new moon cycles.
The waters off the Sumba coast are unpolluted and free of the reef bombing damage that is common in many areas of Indonesia. Diving the waters of Nihiwatu can be very exciting and even experienced divers will be challenged at some of the sites. We dive in four distinctly different areas with the closest being our “House Reef” that is directly in front of the resort. On this reef there are three dive sites that are home to different bottom profiles, fish and corals.
Slightly further is the “Magic Mountain” dive site. This is an open ocean pinnacle dive that is a mile out to sea in 80 meters of water, the top of the mountain is 10 meters below the surface. This site abounds with large masses of pelagic fish. Occasionally there are strong currents making this a dive for the experienced. |

There are two more locations that require boat travel of up to an hour and ten minutes. The nearest of the two is “Tenggirri Bay” requiring travel time of approximately forty minutes. At this location there are three excellent dive sites that are on pinnacles and fringing reefs. Diving in this area will take a half-day so divers are provided with pack lunches along with drinks and snacks.
From Tenggirri Bay another thirty minutes of travel time is needed to reach the “Konda Maloba” dive area. This is in one of Indonesia’s newest national parks and a truly amazing area with many varied dive sites and beautiful beaches. |
We are the only dive operation on Sumba and we are PADI certified. All instructors are renewed and insured. We have Bauer clean air compressors and our dive equipment is by US Divers and Aqualung and we have new Sirocco wetsuits, the equipment is available for rental.
Discover Scuba courses are available and include a session in the swimming pool before a dive on the House Reef. Dive Certification courses are also available. |
