Froggies Divers is not a big dive resort but a small and eco-friendly PADI operation on Bunaken Island near Manado.
They try to make it a home away from home and many of their guests become friends. Their main concern is to offer a very personal service and exceptional diving. The groups are small, no more than 4 or 5 guests per boat with two diveguides, and they take good care not only of the divers but also of preserving marine life.
With the help of the crew of Indonesian dive masters and guides, Tommy the managing director and Isabelle, a PADI instructor, try to make the operation run as smoothly as possible.
Bunaken is famous for its variety of marine life, besides having the big jacks,the napoleons, the turtles, the sharks and the thousands of butterfly fishes, also have an enormous variety of macro subjects, amongst photographers it's known as a macro paradise. In order to show you all the riches of the underwater world Froggies Divers usually choose long, slow and relaxed dives; no need to go very deep, most of the beauties are well above the 30m, and Froggies Divers like to take long long safety stops,
while admiring the upper part of the reef. Your divetime is limited by your air consumption, you will be underwater for at least 75 minutes on most of your dives.
Froggies' base is right at Bunaken's main beach, smack in the middle of the National Marine Park. There they provide eleven fan-cooled double rooms in ten bungalows :
- The largest cottage has a living-room, two bedrooms, bathroom and a veranda overlooking the sea, and is for families or friends that wish to share.
- On the cozier side Froggies Divers have three bungalows with bedroom and living aerea, with bathroom in a small garden and verandah overlooking the sea, perfect for a couple or two friends.
- There are four bungalows without a living-room but with a small corner settee, very close to the beach, with their Bali style bathrooms and verandahs with beach and sea view.
- And finally there are 2 smaller bungalows also without a living room, but with a small Balistyle bathroom and a verandah with seaview;
All the rates include breakfast and Froggies'evening-buffet, all soft-drinks and laundry. Lunch is included in the price of diving. On non-diving days you still can have lunch at Froggies for Euro 7,50 .
Due to lack of fresh water on the island (so no malaria mosquitos) , Froggies Divers opted for Indonesian style bathrooms : you scoop water from a big basin and make yourself wet before soaping, and then scoop again to rinse. It's an easy trick to learn and very refreshing. There are warm showers too, but only from 3 in the afternoon to 9 at night.
No air-con, but you will see that this is not really needed, the evening breeze is very nice and lets you sleep very well.
